How to create a spell bottle for prosperity and abundance

Creating a custom spell bottle is a perfect way for modern witches to empower their intentions using a variety of magical ingredients like salts, herbs, and crystals. Once complete, spell bottles continue to work and serve as a manifestation reminder each time you look at them.

Spell bottles are easy to make, which makes them a great choice for new witches, and beginners. You likely already have many of the ingredients in your spice cabinet. What you include is entirely up to you, and it can be as simple or elaborate as you choose.

With the New Year just around the corner, many of us are setting goals and reestablishing intentions for financial success, abundance, and wealth. Creating an abundance spell bottle is a fun and magical way to give your financial goals a magical push in the right direction. In magic, we like to say it’s all about intention - and that’s very true, but it’s also called spellWORK for a reason. Putting in the effort to actually create a spell brings an entirely new energy to manifestations. It’s like a little flare sent up into the cosmos, and believe me - the Universe will notice.

In order to create your very own Abundance Spell Bottle, you will need a few key ingredients, and then you can add to it from there.

Here are a few basic ingredients to get you started

Once you’ve collected your chosen ingredients, it’s time to get started creating the actual spell of your spell bottle.

Step One: Cleanse, clear, and set up

The first step to beginning spellwork is to cleanse and clear - your space, the items, and even yourself. It’s a good idea to cleanse your body before beginning serious spell work perhaps by taking a ritual bath, or simply taking a shower and using a sea salt scrub or salt water rinse.

Next, cleanse your space. You can do this by smoke cleansing with an aromatic herb like mugwort or with incense. You can also use Florida Water in a spray bottle, or a homage mixture of cleansing essential oils and water. Move counterclockwise around the room as you perform your cleansing ritual in order to remove negative energy.

You might choose to place special items on your workspace or alter. Pieces of pyrite, animal symbols of abundance like elephant figurines, and Tarot cards like 10 of Pentacles and the Emperor or Empress can be supportive points of focus. Having them present will empower you even more as you work.

Finally, cleanse the bottle that you will be filling up with your magical ingredients to create your spell bottle. You can use smoke or water and oils for this, just make sure that you give the inside of the bottle or jar a nice swirl. Jars and bottles travel through all kinds of hands and sit on shelves for a long time before they end up with you, so they can absorb a lot of energy that you might not want to be present for your spellwork. If you choose to use water, just make sure it is nice and dry.

Step Two: Protect yourself and invite Spirit in

Once you’ve cleansed everything and you’re ready to begin, you’ll want to make sure your magical protections are in place. This can look different for everyone. Perhaps you will choose to cast a formal circle if that is part of your practice. You could choose to set up an item to represent each element and place them on the corners of your work space in their corresponding directions and ask them to act as boundaries of protection for your work. If you want to keep it simple, you can simply say a phrase like, “Only energy that is for my highest good can be present now. Negativity of all kinds, be gone!”

Once you’ve invited all of the negative to leave, you’re free to welcome in positive support. This can come in the form of your healed ancestors, Spirit, the Universe, Spirit Guides, Gods, Goddesses, Angels, or any Deities. Make it personal - simply invite in whomever or whatever makes you feel the most supported magically.

Step Three: Begin to create

Now, it’s time to set your intentions and begin to create your spell bottle. I like to start every spell bottle with a grounding layer of salt. Pink salt, Sea Salt, or even Black Himalayan salt (if your means of making money can be considered dangerous black salt is a great idea) are all good options. This grounding, earthy base layer will help manifest your intention here on earth.

Next up, add some sugar. You want to sweeten the odds in your favor, and sugar gives your spell work a friendly vibe. Imagine money flowing into your life sweetly with lots of ease.

After the salt and sugar, it’s time to add some herbs. Some good herbs for abundance and money magic include:

  • Basil - success, happiness, good fortune

  • Bay Leaves - luck! Consider writing words and wishes or drawing sigils on each leaf.

  • Chamomile - balance, serenity, prosperity - We want that money to come to us calmly!

  • Cinnamon - brings power and fiery energy to your intention. It’s considered lucky.

  • Pine - attracts wealth

  • Mint - wealth and prosperity and communication

  • Rosemary - strengthens loyalty and brings prosperity

Arrange your herbs in a way that looks pleasing to you. Consider layering herbs on top of one another to create a beautiful aesthetic, or you can mix them all together. Consider the magical nature of each herb as you add it. Speak words out loud. For example say, “with this mint I call in prosperity!”

Next, add a few coins to your spell bottle. I like to use golden dollars and quarters. You can even roll up a dollar bill or use shredded money with manifestations like, “I am rich, I am wealthy, I am abundant,” written on it and place that in the jar. Imagine money traveling all around the world just to end up in your bank account. Visualize that high number in your savings and what it might feel like.

After the coins, top your spell off with some supportive crystals. For money magic I like to use some of these:

  • Pyrite - law of attraction, money, wealth

  • Tigers Eye - financial planning and good choices when it comes to money

  • Emerald - generosity

  • Malachite - shifting our relationship with money

  • Tourmaline - protection

  • Jade - luck, fortune, and overcoming mental blocks around money

Once you’ve added your crystals and any other meaningful items or intentions to your bottle, you can take a few deep breaths and blow your intentions into the bottle. As you do this, really visualize your life as you’d like it to look. Imagine yourself successful and abundant, with everything you need. Keep your intentions pure, and be as specific as you’d like. Just remember, make sure you put a little safety net for yourself if you get specific. Saying something like, “My business is successful, if it is for my highest good,” is a good way to let the Universe know you want the type of abundance is right. Always be careful what you wish for!

Finally, seal up the jar with the lid or the cork. Your spell bottle is nearly complete. The final step of the process involves sealing your intention with the green candle wax. Before lighting the candle you can dress it with essential oils that fit your purpose and carve symbols of abundance like dollar signs and sigils into the wax. You can even write words into the candle with a small pin. Light the candle and let the wax drip on top of the lid of your spell bottle until it is effectively sealed, or until the candle burns out.

Step Four: Get out there and do the work

You may think your job is done once you complete the spell but that’s the wrong attitude. You have to continue to invite abundance into your life. Very rarely does money just fall into our laps. Spellwork is effective in tipping the odds of the universe in our favor, so apply for new jobs and seek opportunities wherever you can. Practice gratitude with all the things you already have. Notice and acknowledge all the ways that your life is already abundant, and open yourself to new possibilities!
